BUIKA
Country: Spain
Buika is an impressive and extraordinary Spanish singer and composer. Thanks to her African roots, her music draws on a wide range of influences, from jazz and flamenco to pop and soul, all of which is flavoured with African polyrhythmics. Buika has won two Latin Grammys: for the albums El Ultimo Trago (The Last Drink) and La Noche Más Larga (The Longest Night). She has collaborated with Pat Metheny, Chick Corea, Bebo and Chucho Valdés. Her musical freedom, improvisational virtuosity and desire for daring experiments in various genres are revealed through her work with many other Spanish, English, French, Portuguese, Iranian, Italian and Armenian musicians and vocalists. Her tour last year covered the entire globe, taking her through Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa and the USA. The New York Post wrote: "A singer like Buika comes only once in a generation", Buika herself has said that ‘There are no different styles, there are only stories told in different languages.’
