Alfa Jazz Fest
Stage on Rynok Square
Photo exhibition will be opened from 23 to 28 June
Works of the Ukrainian jazz photographer Oleg Nitsko (1966-2016) will be presented within Alfa Jazz Fest on the modified and improved Scene on Rynok Square. The exhibition will open before the beginning of the first concert on 23 June at 15:00.
Oleg got passionate for photography after he finished his military service. Having graduated from the institute he worked at different commercial and public companies, was a successful economist and financial expert, but for a long time photography remained only his hobby. Nevertheless, quite a successful hobby: Oleg's works were appreciated even by professionals – already then he could notice those extraordinary things that for many still remain invisible and routine.
In 1998 Oleg became a professional photographer. He worked at the Kyiv Photographer studio and at once, having already become a jazz fan, started shooting almost all jazz concerts which were taking place at that time in Kyiv. In Ukraine in the 1990s to leave a profitable and promising financial industry for the profession of a photographer was at least a bold and very... jazzy decision. And it tells about many things. The beginning of Oleg's professional career coincides with the birth of a new era in the jazz concert life of Kiev, and later – of the whole Ukraine.
At the same time, during many years Igor Nitsko worked as a photographer on television (1+1 channel), collaborated with such magazines as ArchIdea, LOOKs, l'OFFICIEL, ELLE, Decor and many other, participated in hundreds of projects. But jazz photography always remained the closest to Oleg. It was improvisational music that became the main object of his work, and its performers - his favorite models. Jazz photography was more of a vocation for him than a formal "profession".
His talent of listener, admirer and connoisseur of music can be felt in his every picture. And the passion for jazz, which appeared in the early 90's, remained till the end of his life. Due to this passion, Oleg left an incredible photography heritage - from the first concerts in the Dynamo-Lux club and small festivals of the 90's, to major international concerts and festivals of today. Due to his taste, special vision and style, Oleg Nitsko for almost two decades remained perhaps the most respected and the most special Ukrainian jazz photographer. Not "famous" or "popular", but the one who was equally loved, appreciated and respected by jazzmen and his colleagues photographers.
By the way, Alfa Jazz Fest was Oleg's most favorite festival.
