The famous American singer Cecile McLorin Salvant will perform on 29 June at Eddie Rosner Stage
Cécile McLorin Salvant first came to wide public acclaim after winning the 2010 Thelonious Monk Jazz Vocal Competition. Over the next ten years, she got three Grammy Awards.
When she first burst onto the jazz scene, many listeners were struck by her ability to recall the sound of Bessie Smith, Sarah Vaughan, or Betty Carter. Yet with each new album, McLorin Salvant’s voice has become more her own, more singular.
In "Woman Child" and "For One To Love" her style was determined. “Dreams and Daggers” is a work that emphasizes her fresh and fearless approach to art - life and studio, together with a trio and string quartet, standards and original compositions.
In 2018, she released her fourth album “The Window”, an album of duets with the pianist Sullivan Fortner, explores and extends the tradition of the piano-vocal duo and its expressive possibilities.
Through her selection of repertory and brilliant interpretations, she “plays with time,” making the musical past speak to our contemporary world.
