Winner of LetterOne RISING STARS Jazz Award 2020 announced
The winner of the Award (European edition) is the Israeli trumpeter Itamar Borochov. 725 up-and-coming artists completed submissions for this year's awards.
This year, due to the pandemic, the ceremony was broadcasted on London-based radio station Jazz FM and radio station WBGO in New York. The award ceremony was hosted by Jamie Cullum and featured appearances by Dee Dee Bridgewater, Terri Lyne Carrington and Christian McBride.
The prestigious award gives the winner an unprecedented opportunity to perform at popular jazz festivals in Europe, including Leopolis Jazz Fest.
About the winner:
Itamar Borochov was raised in the port city of Jaffa,Israel, and started playing trumpet at age eleven. Immersed in jazz and the work of pioneering trumpet players such as Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong, he was influenced by Middle Eastern and North Afri- can music which he heard at his local synagogue. Itamar eventually moved to New York to study jazz where he quickly established himself on the local scene. Once back in Eu- rope, he developed into an enthralling band leader and released several albums under his own name, presenting a careful balance between technical playing and storytelling, all the while staying true to his roots and musical upbringing.

LetterOne Rising Stars Jazz Award is one of the most prestigious jazz awards in the world and a significant event in the international jazz calendar. Itamar Borochov received the European Award nomination, and Immanuel Wilkins from Philadelphia was declared the North American Award Winner.
