The famous Cuban musician Chucho Valdes will perform at the Stage dedicated to Eddie Rosner on June 25
Chucho Valdes, Cuban pianist, bandleader, composer, six-time Grammy and three-time Latin Grammy Award winner will perform at Alfa Jazz Fest 2017.
He is the son of the famous pianist Bebo Valdes, who became his first teacher. Chucho is one of the founders of the legendary Orquesta Cubana de Música Moderna and Irakere - two bands who were among the first to combine Afro-Cuban music, jazz, classical music and rock. In the 90's, Chucho began a parallel career as a solo artist and leader of a small group. After that a colossally fruitful period followed, marked by such albums as "Solo Piano", "Solo: Live in New York" and "New Conceptions", anda the quartet’s records "Bele Bele en La Habana", "Briyumba Palo Congo" and "Live at The Village Vanguard ", which won the Grammy Award as the best Latin jazz album.
Tribute to Irakere: Live at Marciac, dedicated to the 40th anniversary of Irakere, won the Grammy Award as the best Latin jazz album of 2016. Chucho Valdes remains one of the most important figures of Latin and piano jazz.
